Welcome to the Sock Hop!

One sock, two sock, red sock, argyle sock! Today we’re going to talk about socks. Yes, I said it, socks; what I believe to be one of the most overlookedIMG_20160315_170449 part of a man’s wardrobe. I’m writing this post because I’ve had several guy friends tell me that they find it hard to really up their style. I believe men find it really difficult to come up with outfits because we tend to have less options than women when it comes to what we can wear on a daily basis. It always ends up being pants, t-shirt, sneakers, over and over again. And, if you work in a field outside of fashion, blogging, or something similar then your outfit choices are even more narrowed. Usually a daily suit, that tends to be brown, navy, or charcoal colored.IMG_20160315_170507

However, I believe that one of the easiest and most overlooked staples of men’s fashion has been socks. We wear them everyday, with any outfit, and yet we don’t tend to care what’s on our feet. Even though people do actually see your socks; when you’re sitting down and your pants ride up that inch or so, when you rest your ankle on your knee, when you wear shorts, and more. I see girls wearing fun socks all the time, with little creatures on them, multicolored socks, even mismatched socks. Men should take note of these options.

Now I’ve worked in very professional environments before; corporations and such, so don’t worry there are socks for you too. In fact, one of my favorite places to buy high quality socks with a kick is Express. They usually have IMG_20160315_170432two for $10 deals going on at the store and their socks come in multiple colors and styles; argyle, polka dots, stripes, and many more. I get complimented all the time for my socks, and they’re extremely easy to slip into any outfit I wear that day, whether it be a suit, business casual, or even just jeans with a t-shirt if I’m going to meet a friend. The next time you take a trip to the mall, or you’re sitting online shopping make sure you check out the men’s sock collection, you might be pleasantly surprised with what you find!

Armani Luxury: Impulse to “Watch”

So my ArmanIMG_20160315_170921i watch from the Orologi collection is not only the one watch that I own, but it’s probably one of the only luxury items I have in my possession. This watch was a ridiculous impulse buy I made several years ago when I was 20. I had worked two jobs that summer and I thought the watch was absolutely beautiful when I walked into the Armani store on my one trip out of the country to Florence, Italy.

Being in a foreign country, especially one like Italy and walking into a store like Armani I just couldn’t resist dropping the $200 on the watch. It was the first luxury item I had ever owned. It was brand name, beautiful, Italian, and spending the money made me feel like a real adult. I don’t exactly regret buying the watch, I made many worse mistakes on that trip… but I wish I’d worn it more. It’s so fancy and expensive that I’ve only worn it about seven or eight times in the last three years. The watch has a dark brown croco leather strap, a square face with stainless steel cage, and a rose gold inlay. Some days I take it out of the box just to stare at it.

I’m not thatIMG_20160315_170807 into luxury buying, mostly because I can’t afford it, but also because I feel bad about using the items that I get. I wonder sometimes if it’s just because I’m a guy and I’m used to buying things to use and use until they’re worn out, not just to have. Also, I don’t find it that fun to shop in luxury stores, like I’m constantly being judged even if I can afford whatever I’m looking at. I enjoy going into stores like T.J. Maxx and rummaging around until I find something that I really love. I think it gives me more joy and and a much bigger thrill.

What I want to know is, have any of you ever made major impulse buys before, and do you regret it? What did you buy?

I also want to hear what you think about buying luxury items, are they worth it, or just too much of an investment?

What luxury items do you have in your wardrobe that you’re just in love with?

Let me know in the comments section, send me an email, or tweet me.

I’d love to hear all of your responses!

ONO at The Little Lion- Review

This past week I went to an event at the restaurant, The Little Lion (Here). Just so you’re all prepared now, I LOVE food! I’m that person that if you follow me I tag myself at places like Walmart and Taco Bell at two in the morning. Trashy I know, haha. Last week I went to an event called ONO (Our Night Out) which is a monthly LGBT event 1916269_10154674950201038_697738118115777964_nthat happens in Philadelphia. It allows the LGBT community to come out (no pun intended) and socialize, drink, and experience a new venue in the city. This week we went to The Little Lion restaurant on Chestnut Street. And I have to tell you, it was fabulous.

I’m not much of a drinker, but the bar at The Little Lion had a spectacular selection. I spent the night drinking multiple raspberry sangria’s which were absolutely delicious. I’m not even a fan of wine, which is a main ingredient, and loved them. The bartenders were extremely nice as well, which from someone who works in the service industry, I’m always on the lookout for. However, it was really the food that caught my attention. From what I’ve heard/read the restaurant is southern inspired, and the food reflects a southern/fusion kind of cuisine. Let me tell you, executive Chef Sean Ciccarone does not disappoint!

We only had aFB_IMG_1458075696136 few appetizers; a pimento cheese crustini, celery soup shooters, and barbecue chicken sliders with pickles and Cole slaw. Everything was absolutely delicious, and I spent the night sipping my sangria and trying to fill up on appetizers. Several friends and I have already made plans to go back for an actual sit down dinner. The restaurant is just another part of the evolution that Philadelphia’s Old City has been going through, and from what I can tell you, it’s certainly a welcome addition. I cannot wait to return and start tasting my way through the normal menu!

Technology Obsession: This Week At The App Store…

So unfortunately I happen to be one of those people who is obsessed with technology, especially apps, but never seems to have any technological talents. It’s almost hilarious sometimes. I have a brother who is a technologies major and as fascinated as I am with coding and hacking I probably couldn’t tell you a single thing about how to do either. I am really into apps however. I find they make my life a lot easier and like most people, I enjoy having so much at my fingertips as my phone never strays far from me.

This week, I’m obsessed with the following three apps: Booking.com, InstaBeauty, and Twitter. These three apps have really been on my mind this week and they’ve come in handy many times over. I believe that everyone should have them downloaded for quick access any time of the day. I’ll go over them individually below.

Booking.com:

I love to trappsblogpost1avel, and I don’t get to do it as often as I’d like; perils of being a broke college kid and all. However, whenever I do travel, especially to NYC, I ALWAYS use the Booking.com app. It’s extremely user friendly. With a great and simple search bar, multiple menus, the ability to change both language and currency, and much more. The app, like it’s site, has a very succinct filters bar and Booking.com always shows you the best deal all over the area that you’re looking. Whenever I’m traveling to NYC for fashion week or just to see friends I always use the app to find the best deal right away. Funny story, when I was in NYC for fashion week last month, I found out on the ride up that staying with a friend for my first night had fallen through. I pulled the app right up on my phone and found a really great/affordable hotel that I booked right then; only two hours from arrival time, in the middle of the night, with no credit card information necessary! Plus, when you’re looking at the hotels the app shows you a bunch of high definition photos that are very simple to scroll through. As far as I’m concerned, everything about this app is user friendly. My favorite kind!

InstaBeauty:

I actually instabeautyappblogging2downloaded this app by accident one day when I was looking for something to help with all the acne that was showing in one of my photos. Turns out, it was one of the best mistakes I’ve ever made. I only have the free version of the app, so there are a few ads that will pop up while you’re using it, but I don’t tend to mind them. Once you choose a photo, either from your gallery, or because you decide to take one with camera right then and there, you have multiple options. You can do a full auto retouch to the picture, or you can narrow down what you want to focus on. Choices include skin, makeup, eye bags, teeth whitening, and blemishes. The app even goes so far as to correct your nose, face slimming, eyes, and smile! Now I’m not THAT into retouching my photos, I don’t really believe in that much editing, but I suppose it’s there if you want it. I’ve corrected plenty of photos I originally thought to trash because of this app. Especially if the lighting wasn’t very nice to my skin.

   Twitter:

I know thtwitterappblogging3is recommendation sounds crazy, if not stupid, but I’m really serious about it. I might sound blasphemous as a blogger, and a millenial, but I really hate having to keep track of 100 different social media sites. Between Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, Vine, Tindr, Lookbook, and all of the rest I’m definitely annoyed and overwhelmed. However, I find Twitter to be a really nice go-to for everything. When I was first working on this blog I went to Twitter to be my blog’s go-to social media site. I find it really easy to connect and share, as well as to reach out to fellow bloggers and people in the industry. 140 characters is a bit short for me but it still gives me room to talk while keeping me succinct. I also believe that Twitter is an extremely quick way of keeping up with and sharing information. Plus, Twitter allows you to connect accounts which makes it super easy for me to switch back and forth between my personal account and my blog’s account! Everything in just one click.

Skincare Miracle?!

IMG_20160313_202533 So I thought that for my first post I would just jump right in with something I’ve been obsessing over for the last couple of weeks- skincare. I know that it seems odd for men to freak out over their skin, but I personally believe that with the absence of makeup- men should be worrying about their skin; perhaps even more than women.

Now I’m biracial, which means that I’m constantly dealing with competing genetics when it comes to finding products to use on my body; especially skincare. However, after a very long (read: exhausting) trip to Sephora, I believe I’ve found the mother (pun intended) of all skincare products. Josie Maran Argan Oil Face ButterFor everyone who doesn’t know, Josie Maran is a former model and actress who launched her own natural cosmetics line in 2007. And it’s amazing!

So unfortunately I have a horrible mix of oily and dry zones on my face. I’ve used several different methods, acne products that include lotions, major household lotions like Jergens and Aveeno, alternative moisturizers, but to no avail. However, the Face Butter has been taking care of all of that; balancing out my skin and helping to counteract the extreme dryness that I face when I have to use acne products. I’ve been using the face butter for a while now and I haven’t seen any negatives to it yet.

Now the face butterJosieMaranFaceButter2 is a bit pricey, about $40 for a 1.7 ounce bottle; but you need only a minimal amount for the entire face. I can be kind of cheap when it comes to my purchases, and as a sometimes stereotypical guy I really appreciate the ability to be super low maintenance. I’m really loving the face butter right now, its a total obsession of mine. And it’s gotten me really                                                                       interested in the skincare world.

Drop me a comment letting me know what you think about it, and any other Josie Maran products you recommend!
